SUMMARY:"Birth of Rock and Roll" Music History/Talk Video
DESCRIPTION:The Fort Edward Free Library will offer a special music history presentation\, “The Birth of Rock and Roll: Songs That Defined an Era”\, on Sunday September 17th at 1:30 pm at the Fort Edward Free Library.   The program is free and open to the public. \nThis entertaining and enlightening visual program will take music lovers back to one of the greatest musical eras in American history. Rare video presentations of such artists as Chuck Berry\, Elvis Presley\, Little Richard\, Fats Domino\, Buddy Holly\, Ray Charles\, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bo Diddley will be shown with commentary by author and pop culture historian Marty Gitlin.  Gitlin will discuss the impact these rock and roll pioneers made on society and pop culture.  He will also challenge patrons with trivia questions and interact with a lively Q&A following the event. \nMarty Gitlin is a veteran author and sportswriter. He has had about 150 books published since 2006\, including A Celebration of Animation: The 100 Greatest Cartoon Characters in Television History (Lyons Press\, 2018) with Joe Wos. His Great American Cereal Book (Harry Abrams\, 2012) soared to No. 1 in both the Americana and Breakfast Book categories on Amazon.com immediately upon release and remained there for several months while his Powerful Moments in Sports: The Most Significant Sporting Events in American History earned critical acclaim. Gitlin won more than 45 awards as a sports journalist from 1991 to 2002\, including first place for general excellence from The Associated Press for his coverage of the Indians-Braves World Series in 1995.
